Hello again my tangling friends, great to have your company this fine day.
As is usual for this time of the year we’re keeping our eyes on the tropics here in the southeast.
As we speak Tropical Storm Idalia is building strength in the Gulf of Mexico and is projected to be a major hurricane by the time it reaches the west coast and Panhandle area of Florida and the southeast coast late tomorrow, August 29th. These storms are so gigantic any more that Tropical Storm force winds from Idalia are being projected even for here on the southeast coast of Florida. Prayers for everyone in the storm’s direct path. Memory Lane: both Hurricane Katrina (2005) and Hurricane Ida (2021) made their destructive landfalls on August 29th.
To help take our minds off things over which we have no control, let’s tangle!
Abo is today’s easy Monday tangle and it’s from Spanish CZT Yolanda López Segura, it’s her third on the site. Most recently we explored her sweet Dano.
The way Abo is constructed reminds me of some of Texas CZT Suzanne McNeill’s tangles which use the same simple inking device to create the illusion of something woven (Basketweave) or a cord or thread passing though a solid object such as a bead (Stone Necklace).
FWIW, after a couple of practice rounds I discovered that it was easier for me to start with the inner C shape in Step 3, then add the aura around it and fill it in. The temptation to further embellish the Abo “petals” for my example was very hard to resist, but I managed 😉
Yolanda illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Abo below and she includes a simple monotangle featuring her tangle.
In this bonus set of steps, Yolanda shows us a way to tangle the twisted ribbon of Abo demonstrated in the tile above.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

As we here in North Queensland, Australia, are also prone to Cyclones, as you are prone to Hurricanes (both the same sort of horror) we’re thinking of you and hoping it “dies” or veers off and away before causing you any angst! Stay safe and with all out thoughts and love,
Sue and Maurie Zanker.
What a fun tangle. Thanks for sharing.
Abo has been popping up on my tiles and even along the sides of journal pages – it’s a sweet tangle to enjoy <3
