Greetings y’all and welcome back, great to have your company as always.
For those of us who are fans, the FIFA Women’s World Cup has been excellent this year with some Cinderella teams surprising the football world and some old faithfuls shocking us with their premature exits. This week we’ll enjoy the semi finals with two intriguing match-ups – Spain v Sweden tomorrow in our time zone and Australia v England on Wednesday. The final match to determine the winner is next Sunday – will the co-host nation take it all?? The Premier League has already begun its new season and college football gets underway soon. Can’t wait!
In the world of tangling, we start off our week as usual with a super easy one to get the pen and ink mojo flowing.
Day-zee is from CZT Peg Philleo and it’s her first on the site.
Day-zee is composed very simply of aura-ed oval-shaped orbs connected to each other by a Bales rice-shaped element, some in Hollibaugh-fashion if you like, and embellished however your intuition takes you. And if you fancy it, a touch of graphite shading can add icing on the cake.
Peg introduces herself:
I started tangling a few years ago and decided to become a CZT37 when Zentangle HQ offered the on-line version. I love to tangle and take my materials with me when I travel. I live in the the US near Washington DC.
Peg illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Day-zee below where she notes, “Day-zee offers a lot of flexibility and I showed some different ways on the examples. You can also use different shading techniques to make it look different – for example shading the petals instead or the centers.”

Its simplicity does not limit its interest. The oval orbs are interesting and their auras can be decorated in different ways. They can even suggest organic tissue. My favorite arrangement is with tipple between the petals because it gives a rich, even sophisticated texture. Good start to the week.
Peg – congrats on your first tangle! I think Day-zee is great fun to play with and my tiles are covered with lots of lovely Day-zees today <3 And the shading possibilities are amazing! Thank you for sharing 🙂
I think this pattern presents a n endless multitude of possibilities! This framework could be used as a “sampler” for other tangles! The ovals could become gemstones! The petals could be thin or fat. Besides #tipple, one could use #n’zepple, #printemps, #diva dance, etc, as fillers! Can you tell I am really excited about this design? Thanks for sharing!
