Scallops is a tangle pattern that first appears in CZT® Suzanne McNeill’s Zentangle 3 and again later in Julie Eakes’ Clay Classics book.
I get easily confused when drawing some repeating shapes. My brain wants to make the shapes meet up in odd places.
For me it helped here to visualize the rows of Scallops on a diagonal when drawing the initial curves – in other words in this small square and starting in the lower left corner, the first row has one scallop, the second row has 2, the third has 3, and so on. I wish I had more time to practice all these tangles because I do know that the more I do, the better they get. And the more fun they are to draw once I get the hang of them.
Suzanne illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing her Scallops, here. UPDATE: Early in the Summer of 2014 Suzanne McNeill’s blog was removed and all the posts and images were lost. The site is being reconstructed as much as possible but the links will no longer be the same. Many of her patterns on TanglePatterns can quite easily be figured out. For those that might be a little more difficult, Suzanne has graciously given me permission to post her copyright-protected images on TanglePatterns for your convenience.

Thank you so much for having this resource. I use it everyday to try at least one new tangle.
Suzanne, I just read this little fact his week and thought you might enjoy seeing it too, since it concerns real scallops. It is a shellfish and we only eat its muscle – but each one has between 50-100 EYES – all a beautiful BLUE – around the wavy edge of its shell. They do have some visual ability, mostly helping the animal to distinguish between dark and light. There`s lots more on Wikipedia, if you are interested! (However, since you are into Zentangle, I can understand if Scallops are not your FIRST interest!) 🙂
