Today’s fun Jax tangle is the second named Jax on the site. The first Jax by tangler Vera Giesbrecht was from WAY in the early days of TanglePatterns, be sure to check out hers too.
However today’s Jax (Jax II?) is from California CZT Kim Kohler and it’s her first on the site.
Kim is from the CZT16 (2014) class and she writes, “I’m pleased to say that I have finally created a new tangle pattern!”
Kim introduces herself and shares how Zentangle® helped her through a traumatic health challenge,
I live in Elk Grove, California which is just south of Sacramento (so Northern California).
I heard about Zentangle when I was going through treatment for breast cancer in 2012. My doctors misdiagnosed me for over a year, so when they finally diagnosed me, I was stage 3c. Treatment was horrific, so when I found Zentangle, I was happy that I could distract myself and also get back to drawing, which I had loved to do as a kid.
Once I recovered from treatment, I traveled to RI to become a CZT. Best decision of my life (besides marrying my wife of course). Zentangle gives me calm when my body reminds me of the trauma it has been through. Zentangle has also brought me a whole community and some very close friends that I never would have known.
As you’ll no doubt observe, Jax shares DNA with the Zentangle-originals Rixty and Pokeroot/Pokeleaf.
Kim illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Jax below and she shows us how it can also be used as a ribbon or border/frame around a tile as well on its own or combined with other tangles, in this case with Pokeroot. My example is a bit of a wild garden 🙂
