Hello friends, welcome back for another week of great tangles.
As you may know, this week’s weather report for Floridians is the approach of Hurricane Milton (already a Category 4 storm) from the Gulf of Mexico and across mid-state. This looks like it will affect most of the west coast of Florida when it comes ashore in the Tampa Bay area Wednesday afternoon and then cross the state through the night heading in our general direction with wind and rain before heading out to sea. Anxious times for our fellow Floridians …
Today’s super easy and fun tangle is simply called 54 and it’s from tangler Wim Mie.
This is Wim’s first tangle on the site and though she didn’t introduce herself, she does explain her tangle’s inspiration:
I especially like drawing grid tangles but also playing games. So this tangle is inspired by dice, the ‘five’ and ‘four’ side, although I positioned the four differently.
This grid-tangle, with alternating fives and fours, creates a polkadot meta pattern.
As you know I’m with Wim on enjoying tangling grid tangles. 54 might share DNA with several of CZT Angie Gittles’s super easy “dotty” tangles, including Easypeasy. For my example of 54 I used one of Wim’s sample variations below. I’m thinking ZIAs with colored backgrounds (for example Tombow’s Splash Technique) and/or metallic or colored Sakura Gelly Roll pen dot fills would be fun with this one.
Wim illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing 54 below and she illustrates it in a Zentangle® tile composed of six variations of her tangle. Have fun seeing what else you can come up with! Warped (wonky) grids are another way of changing up this tangle.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle.
