Greetings friends and welcome back for another week of new tangle inspiration.
Canadian tangler and prolific tangle deconstructor Cyndi Knapp is back with us to share Vanes, our fun and easy Monday tangle.
Cyndi shares how she came up with Vanes:
As crazy as it sounds, the inspiration for this pattern came out of the blue with an image flash of a sliced avocado. What prompted this, I have no idea…perhaps hunger?
As I suspected, the image transferred into a super simple organic pattern. It’s really fun to tangle, works up very quickly, can be used as a vessel for other patterns and makes a great string.
When the pattern was finished it made me think of the vanes that power a windmill – hence it was named Vanes.
Cyndi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Vanes below and demonstrates it in a monotangle tile with a background created using Tombow’s Splash Technique with #076 Green Ochre. “Tip: Tangle Steps 2 and 3 as uniformly as possible in length to get the best overall look.”
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle.
