How to draw MYSEALIAM

I’m back today with a Christmas Bonus, a new Zentangle®-original tangle.

The Zentangle®-original Mysealiam tangle created by co-founder Maria Thomas was one of six new tangles first introduced at the CZT-only zenAgain annual conference last month.

Yesterday in Day 4 of Project Pack 19 — the 2022 edition of Zentangle’s traditional Twelve Days of Zentangle — Maria adds the new Mysealiam tangle to our project thus publicly releasing the first of the six new tangles. (As the others are introduced publicly by Zentangle, they too will be added to the site.)

Note: We’re a few days into the Twelve Days of Zentangle, 2022 Edition and if you’ve missed it or simply don’t have time for it right now, I’ve got your back.

Next week when the series wraps up I’ll be posting my traditional TanglePatterns Project Pack Summary with links to all the video tutorials AND a detailed summary of each.

Maria explains how this tangle came by its name: “Mysealiam was named for our grandson Liam, who is all about the ocean.”

Maria demonstrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Mysealiam in this video:

For Maria’s printable step-by-step illustration showing how to tangle Mysealiam, see this page on the Zentangle blog.

Mysealiam is a tangle that really enjoys some elbow room for its manta-ray-like wings to float around, I found my example size “tile” a very tight fit indeed! I recommend tangling large …

Tutorial for Embedded Letter Technique

At 10:20 in the video above Maria adds an embedded letter. Zentangle HQ included a video tutorial demonstrating this technique as part of their Kitchen Table Tangles series.

You can find that entire video tutorial and the story behind it here: Kitchen Table Tangles – Zentangle video exploring the Embedded Letters technique.

UPDATE March 27, 2023 – Project Pack #20. As part of the Blossoming Tangles project pack, Maria tangles Mysealiam in this video:

As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. I am really enjoying the 12 Days of Zentangle! I’m looking forward to learning the other 5 new ones! Mysealiam reminds me of Gourdgeous.

thank you thank you thank you!!! I figured what ever I drew would end up in the bin so I did it on my practice journal and it did indeed look awful right up until it suddenly blew my mind. the phrase ‘trust the process’ is not a joke.
