How to draw BE VEE

Hello again friends, and welcome to August and a fresh new inspiration of tangles.

Before we get to today’s tangle exploration … how can I NOT say how amazing was it yesterday to watch England’s women’s soccer team win their first ever major international championship: UEFA’s Euro 2022, the 13th edition of the European women’s soccer championship! It was a tense and well contested final match against an impressive Germany team, it went into dramatic extra time and it was a joy to watch the win and the celebrations across the country, not just for the record crowd of 87,192 fans at Wembley Stadium. Euphoria reigned with the Lionesses’ historic win. From the CNN report:

There was also a message of congratulations from Queen Elizabeth II, who lauded the team for inspiring the next generation.

“The Championships and your performance in them have rightly won praise,” she said. “However, your success goes far beyond the trophy you have so deservedly earned.

“You have all set an example that will be an inspiration for girls and women today, and for future generations. It is my hope that you will be as proud of the impact you have had on your sport as you are of the result today.”

The win was so inspirational, many young girls have new ambitions today as a result. When you search Google for “Euro 2022”, the search pages come up with red fireworks in England’s honor/honour. Great recognition of this wonderful achievement and congratulations to all the European women’s soccer players for a fabulous tournament. FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand/Australia next year!!

As for our tangle of the day …

Be Vee is another one from the archives and it’s from tangler Kerri Love. Looks complicated but it’s easy to tangle.

When Kerri first posted Be Vee on her flickr account, it was around the time we had explored All About V from Ksenija Vojisavljevic, so it got put in a holding mode.

But as you may know I continually review all eligible submissions regardless of “age” for consideration and that’s how I recently rediscovered Be Vee in the archives.

Be Vee is formed in a channel grid and there are many ways you can embellish the shapes to fill them, creating different overall looks. I used a simple combination in my example. Shading really elevates the finished look of this tangle. Scallops instead of triangles is another interesting exploration.

Kerri illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Be Vee below where she shows us several ways to vary her tangle as well as some tips on shading it.

Like some help with shading your Zentangles?

It's fun and easy — forget about traditional "art rules" for shading, this is Zentangle and those rules do not apply!

As we are coached in the chapter on Shading in the Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1, "Ignore the light source ... in Zentangle shading we do not consider the type or direction of the light source. ... More often, shading is a component of the tangle itself that we use to play with dimension, emphasis, and contrast."
