Guest Contributor: CZT Barbara Langston’s excellent video guide on how to use TanglePatterns.com

CZT Barbara Langston's video guide to using the TanglePatterns.com websiteHi everyone! Today I have a special treat for you.

Recently I received an email from Texas CZT Barbara Langston requesting my permission for her to make a video tutorial on how to use the site:

I use your site almost daily, and want to show some of my favorite things, but I want to check with you first to make sure it’s OK.

My idea is to show things that they might not have noticed in the menus and in the side bars. I just plan to quickly cover many of the basics.

We agreed Barbara would upload the video for my review before she went live and I gave my permission to proceed.

With my blessing for her efforts and her great idea, Barbara just created this excellent video tutorial for her YouTube channel. In her calm and relaxed manner, she guides you through her favorite features and shows you how to get the most out of using the TanglePatterns.com site.

BTW, for the sake of information completeness, Barbara sent me a followup email:

I realized that I forgot to mention the right sidebar links for RECENT POSTS and POPULAR POSTS.  I like those links too. 🙂

With many thanks to Barbara for her organization and thoroughness, here is her video guide:

Meet Barbara …

Barbara lives in League City, Texas.

I found Zentangle while taking a class at a local college when I saw the poster of 102 Tangles. I was instantly attracted. I learned on my own until I finally met CZT Victoria McMillen and took her class. In June 2019 I attended CZT Seminar 34 and got my certificate.

I am a veteran and originally hoped to work with veterans who suffer from PTSD and others with anxiety problems. I had just started teaching Zentangle classes at that same local college, then Covid shut it down.

I now have a YouTube channel called “Not Perfect Zen”. I love reading all of the comments from those who watch my videos and noticed lately that there were a lot of artists who were new to Zentangle. Since I use the TanglePatterns website so much, I wanted to show my old and new users all of the functions that are there. So this video was born, with Linda’s blessing. Many thanks to Linda for her website and all that she does!

Barbara’s YouTube Channel

“Not Perfect Zen” is from these reminders:
– This is NOT a contest.
– No one is PERFECT
– Enjoy the ZEN, one line at a time.

For future reference you can find this post on the TUTORIALS and the VIDEOS tabs in the pink alphabetic menu bar. I’ve also added the video itself on the ABOUT > HOW TO USE THIS SITE page.

After viewing Barbara’s video, if you have questions please feel free to add them in the comments below.

And a suggestion to all my CZT colleagues: share the link to this video with your students and followers! Or show it as part of a class …

THANKS again, Barbara! Great job.

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. Thanks for this information filled video. I have just begun to explore all the things available on this site, you gave us tips on how to find things without getting lost! I have to admit I’m good at getting lost! Thanks again for helping with this wonderful website!

  • Jane Elaine

This was wonderful information, very nicely presented. I’ve subscribed to TanglePatterns.com for a long time, but didn’t know all that was available on the home screen. Also, it’s nice to refresh my memory about some of the links I have known. Thank you, Barbara and Linda, for enhancing my enjoyment of Zentangle!

  • Angela Armel

I honestly didn’t realize just how much tangling information we have access to! I’m kind of on hiatus at the moment but as soon as I’m able, I will contribute what I can. Thank you ladies!!!

  • Yvette Dupuis

Thank you so much! what a great informative video. Although I use it often enough, you introduced me to so maybe possibilities I had overlooked completely. Much appreciated! And so wonderfully presented!

  • Ria Matheussen

Thanks to this video, I discovered new possibilities and I am sure this is a great help for many tanglers!!! Thank you both Barbara and Linda.

  • Judi Gilbert

Yeah Barbara! Finally you have deconstructed this site for me after 7 years of practicing Zentangle!!!! Thank you. Thank you. THANK YOU! It all makes sense now. I am curious about the right side border and what the “badges” connect to. Happy in Tyler, Texas.

    • Linda Farmer, CZT

Hi Judi, Barbara did a great job. If you read the info with the badges it says: “To add a TanglePatterns badge to your website, blog, etc., here’s the code you need – simply click in the box below, copy and paste. The badge links to the TanglePatterns home page. Share the Zentangle® love!”

    • Thank you, Judi. I’m happy that the tutorial helped you. As Linda indicated in her reply, the “badges” are useful if you have your own webpage and you want to create a link to the TanglePatterns website.

  • Barb Johnson

Thank you so much for the great video – very helpful.

  • LLS
