How to draw CARO-MINGLE

Zentangle pattern: Caro-Mingle. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Greetings my tangling friends!

Today’s Caro-Mingle tangle is from Australian tangler Carolyn Lally and it’s her first on the site.

It was Carolyn’s submission that reminded me of Damy’s Yuu which we explored earlier this week (left side, below). A slight change and different embellishments and we have another tangle!

Carolyn introduces herself and her tangle,

I was first introduced to Zentangle® by my friend Mary Bryant CZT in 2012, at a time when I was into scrapbooking, & cardmaking. I dabbled in it from time to time but I have ADCD – Attention Deficit Craft Disorder – and keep on getting distracted!

I have been tangling more regularly over the past 3 years – 2 of which we were travelling and working in our caravan around Australia and my tangle journals and pens were all I could fit in the van.

We have been settling into our new home in the Clare Valley of South Australia now for the past 18 months, and each year on the June long weekend I invite a group of 8 women to stay for 3 days as a craft retreat.

We started off years ago as a scrapbooking and cardmaking group, and whilst some members still enjoy these crafts, many of us have dabbled in lots of different skills, Zentangle amongst them.

These women have played a vital role in my life, supporting, crafting, laughing and inspiring me over so many different directions and creative pursuits. We all come from very different backgrounds and yet together we have built something so much more special than each of our individual strengths.

This tangle came to me in the middle of the night when I was thinking about the upcoming weekend with my friends – it kept coming back to me and I had to draw it. Quite ironic actually as I don’t usually like Grid tangles, I tend to favour more curves and organic tangles.

So this tangle is dedicated to them and my new craft and art friends – to the women who like to gather to mingle with each other and inspire each other – creating something yet again, just like the tangle that creates different patterns once put together in a grid.

Carolyn illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Caro-Mingle below where she features it in a Zentangle-inspired (ZIA) piece demonstrating it in both the grid and the ribbon-style versions.

Thank you so very much for this elegant tangle from “down under”! I love the tangle, but I am also TREMENDOUSLY GRATEFUL for the diagnosis! I have struggled with ADCD most of my life, I now have a name for it!!!! 🙂

  • Roberta Strickland

This is such a fun tangle that I hope to use over and over! So many possibilities! But even more, I love that you have finally diagnosed what I have been living with for so long: Attention Deficit Craft Disorder! I hope to never get cured! With tangles like yours, I’m not too concerned!

  • Deborah J Davis

This tangle has so many possibilities. Thanks so much for sharing it.

  • A fun tangle and what a fun name for this disorder a lot of us have seem to of caught over our lifetime. Thanks for sharing.

  • Nina

Your tangle was superb, exciting but the story of your friendships really touched me. I never met an anxiety, a tangle couldn’t cure. Jealous in Toronto….
