In honor of such an auspicious date, we’re exploring CZT Heidi Kay’s Hartfents tangle.

Hartfents is Heidi’s fourth tangle on the site, as it happens her most recent Mymuze was a tribute to her mother.

Hartfents is lovely as-is but it’s also a blank slate for adding interesting fills in the open spaces if so desired. ZIAs are also very inviting.

Heidi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Hartfents below. She includes two pretty variations as well as a lovely ZIA that demonstrates how using a larger “canvas” gives more room to play with interior embellishments.

Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. TIP: tangles never start with pencil planning.
