How to draw MALB

Hello my friends, so delighted to see you again today 🙂

Robert and I are still staying safe at home and keeping well, I hope you are too!

Today Japanese CZT Sayomi Koike shares her pretty Malb tangle with us. Last year we explored Sayomi’s striking Hokusai tangle.

She writes,

The name of this tangle is Malb. These are the initials of my cats’ names – Mina, Aura, Laun, Boss.

Malb is very easy to draw. First, you draw three drops. Then gradually draw a small aura.

Malb can be increased forever.

Another star-of-the-show tangle, Malb is indeed fun and easy to tangle. A wee touch of shading is the finishing touch.

[Note: Recently I added the tag “focal” for this type of tangle to our TANGLES BY TYPE section and I’m slowly working my way through updating older tangles to add them to this section.]

Sayomi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Malb below where she features it as a focal point with some added auras and delicate Tipple bubbles.

Like some help with shading your Zentangles?

It's fun and easy — forget about traditional "art rules" for shading, this is Zentangle and those rules do not apply!

As we are coached in the chapter on Shading in the Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1, "Ignore the light source ... in Zentangle shading we do not consider the type or direction of the light source. ... More often, shading is a component of the tangle itself that we use to play with dimension, emphasis, and contrast."
