How to draw WALK THE LINE

The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Today’s versatile Walk the Line tangle is from New York CZT Chris Titus and it’s her second tangle on the site.

BTW, don’t let my example fool you. Wait until you see how many cool ways Chris shows that Walk the Line can become.

Chris writes,

Much like Zentangle®, when we begin with a thought and take it a step at a time, it can sometimes end up differently than we may have envisioned. That’s the way it happened with Walk the Line.

It began as a tribute to my sisters, (one of who originally introduced me to Zentangle), and then took a very different direction. It has become a tangle that represents a way of living for me.

When we “walk the line” we maintain a fragile balance between one extreme and another. That’s where I find myself these days.

What I love most about this tangle is the zen flow that it provides. The key to finding that flow is keeping your pen on the paper once you begin to walk. Do those strokes in a continuous motion as you walk between the lines.

And the bonus comes at the end with the unexpected rounding that occurs.

I hope you’ll Walk the Line with me. It’s a fun walk!

It’s impossible to avoid it — don’t know about you, but I’m hummin’ Johnny Cash. Classic.

Chris illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Walk the Line below and as I mentioned before, look how many different ways you can explore it.

Like some help with shading your Zentangles?

It's fun and easy — forget about the traditional "art rules" for shading, this is Zentangle and those rules do not apply!

As we are coached in the chapter on Shading in the Zentangle PRIMER Vol 1, "Ignore the light source ... in Zentangle shading we do not consider the type or direction of the light source. ... More often, shading is a component of the tangle itself that we use to play with dimension, emphasis, and contrast."

Everything you need to know is here in two free tutorials on TanglePatterns.

  1. TanglePatterns Shading Mini Clinic, Part 1 by CZT Marizaan van Beek, and
  2. TanglePatterns Shading Mini Clinic, Part 2 by CZT Sandy Bartholomew
