We’ve had a lot of “new” Zentangle®-original tangles the last few days that kind of took over the tangles I already had planned so here’s a bonus for you today.
This minimalist, optical illusion tangle is from Spanish tangler Tomàs Padrós. Tomàs has several popular tangles on the site, this is his eighth.
He calls it Fringe to Fringe or F2F for short and shares a bunch of ways to explore the tangle’s concept.
Tomàs writes,
(In the first set of steps) “I show the deconstruction of its rectilinear basic arrangement.
In the example F2F tile we can see the tangles Barquillos by María Tovar and Carrés by Geneviève Crabe.”
Tomàs illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing his F2F tangle below with the tile he described.
Notice in Steps 4 and 5 that the “shadows” go up, or down as the case may be, extending from the line they meet up with. I’ve highlighted in this image with the green line:
In this example with the same steps as above, Tomàs adds “a sample of its possibilities with concave and convex curved shapes and the possibility of combining them in a freer and more fun design.”
In this example Tomàs shares “a tangleation that I like to call Chlorophilia accompanied by other variations or tangleations based on the same F2F concept.”
Lots of fun ideas to explore with Tomàs F2F concept!
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share!

Great tangle, Tomàs. Another brain tickler! Gracias!
Hi Tomas! I love F2F! I know all of the people in our class (Taught by Sue Schneider, CZT in Pittsburgh) will also love it. We all (about 35 regular attendees with 2 men included) like and follow your posts!
Tomas, you come up with some great tangles. Thanks for sharing with all of us.
I tried F2F once. Such a fantastic pattern Tomas! Have to tangle it soon again :-)…I love the illusion it creates! Thank you for sharing, Tomas and Linda! Best wishes from Cologne, Nadine
I love F2F!! It really strikes my fancy. Can’t wait to play with this tonight. Thank you very much, Tomas. You never fail in bringing very interesting tangles for us to enjoy!
A special thank you to you, Linda, for giving us such a wonderful avenue of learning, doing and enjoyment. You are amazing!

What’s not to like about this Tangle, Tomas! It has everything to offer, easy, promotes depth, and use of negative space. Can’t wait to use this!
I like the 3D effect on this tangle very much!
Wow. A recipe for endless fun! So simple, but so ingenious – typical of a Tomas tangle! Thank you for designing it, and sharing it!
Oooooo, how fun!! Can’t wait to try!! Thank you Tomas!
Thank you all for your wonderful and warm comments. I hope you have fun with F2F. Thank you very much Linda for your work. Your contribution to the instructions with the indications in green are fantastic. They facilitate the comprehension of deconstruction. I am delighted.
oh, I LOVE the curled paper one!
