How to draw VIGOH

Zentangle pattern: Vigoh. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal. In recognition of this Canadian Thanksgiving long weekend, today we are exploring Canadian tangler Cyndi Knapp’s Vigoh tangle.

Assuming my count is correct, Vigoh is Cyndi’s 10th tangle on the site.

She writes,

You never know what’s going to trigger inspiration for a Zentangle® pattern! Going through jewelry not worn for years, I came across earrings that were once favourites.”

I thought their shape would make a great tangle pattern and I’m looking forward to wearing them regularly again.

Vigoh makes a great medallion center or border for Zentangles and Zendalas.

It’s easier to draw than it might look and lends itself to some variation and small gemstones.

Cyndi also offers these tips for tangling Vigoh,

  1. A square or diamond string (as in Steps and Illustrations, respectively) makes it easier to get the right proportions.
  2. The smaller the inner circle (Step 1), the more area there is for inside embellishment.
  3. The size of the 4 outer circles (Step 2) determines the width of the 4 medallion arms. The larger the circles, the more accentuated the pattern and the more area for background embellishment.
  4. The outer circles are actually 3/4 circles – the start & finish of each arch inwards but do not meet where they touch the string (Step 2). This is what separates the medallion arms.

Cyndi illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Vigoh below where she features it in a dramatic black-on-white Zendala and a pretty monotangle Zentangle tile with graphite ghost auras.
