How to draw LEELEE

Happy Monday, my friends! If you’re like me, you’re feeling overdue for a grid-based tangle. And thus …

UK tangler Sharon Robinson is back today with LeeLee, an easy tangle with a huge variety of possibilities whether in a ribbon or border-style or an overall grid tangle.

Sharon has shared several tangles with us to date and her Sindoo still remains one of my favorites.

Grid-based tangles have almost unlimited possibilities and can fill a section of your Zentangle® tile so Zen-methodically and easily, one stroke at a time. Whether you draw your grid with standard straight lines, or curve them creating a “wonky” grid, the results are always satisfying to tangle and to appreciate when you’re finished.

About LeeLee Sharon writes,

It is really just the seed of a grid pattern but it has so many tangleations that I think it deserves a name of its own.

I have included many tangleations and border options on my step outs sheet.

Each piece of the grid has a “seed” shape connected to the grid with curves and an arch shape. Depending on the layout of the grid seed there are numerous options!  And of course you can vary the grid too, although I haven’t shown this on my step out sheet.

For my example of LeeLee I used Sharon’s “rounded out” version at Step 3. By rotating the basic grid “seed” first described here in 2013 in the Zentangle newsletter (seeds are now called fragments), many different patterns can be created. Always remembering to turn your tile as you tangle instead of changing the position or angle of your hand.
