How to draw ELEGANZA

Many of you have been enjoying German tangler Simone Bischoff’s wonderful tutorial, “Sharpen your line drawing skills with six easy lessons from Simone Bischoff“. She also has several great tangles here on the site including the popular Girlande.

Today’s Eleganza is Simone’s tangle deconstruction from March 2014 and it surfaced again recently in my regular review of my tangle archives.

Eleganza is very easy to draw, it is composed simply of overlapping scalloped lines. As with many tangles, it’s very helpful to turn your tile for Step 3, so you are always drawing your curves in the same direction. It also helps at this stage to aim for the halfway point on the side of each curve in the line you are overlapping to get a consistent result.

“has many variations and is very easy to draw, useful both as a space filler, as well as border, sometimes with strong contrasts, sometimes shaded delicately.“

Simone illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Eleganza here on her blog where she shows some variations. She also features an embellished “half” version of it in a beautiful Zentangle® tile including the Zentangle-original tangles Finery, Tripoli and Cadent.

Exactly two years to the day plus one after Simone published Eleganza, unaware that it was already published elsewhere CZT Lianne Woods posted this tangle under another name. Lianne demonstrates several really great ways to vary this tangle here.
