How to draw SUBLINE

Here’s a great 3D geometric tangle from Taiwan CZT Diane Tai, and she’s named it Subline.

There’s no shortage of curvy, swirly tangles but I know there are many of us who enjoy bold, eye-catching geometrics like Subline.

Diane’s inspiration was “an advertisement in a Subway station in New York City” and she took this photograph of the ad so she could work on deconstructing the pattern.

Diane writes,

“This pattern caught my eyes when I was transferring at Times Square Station.

It looks like a combination of the Zentangle patterns Beeline and Cubine.”

Subline offers several options for solid fills and the shading that give it the 3D look.

Here are Diane’s steps for drawing Subline and she features it in two bold monotangles, the larger being a variation of the basic tangle. Subline starts out like Beeline and I found if I drew the first two steps “sideways” it was easier for me to judge the spacing and angles of the strokes.
