I’ve never been one to succumb to the “Friday the 13th” superstition that this is an unlucky day. Considering the alternative, any day when the sun comes up is a very lucky day indeed 🙂

CZT Beate Winkler is from the northern Germany city of Hamburg, and Tri-Bee is her first tangle on the site.

As of this writing there are 17 CZTs in Germany and several including Beate have published Zentangle®-related books in German, helping to popularize this art form even further in this country of about 82 million people.

Tri-Bee grows from the inside out similar to tangles like Arc Flower and a little like Alaura, which as Shoshi points out in the comments could also be drawn from the inside out.

Tri-Bee as Beate has drawn it has a random form but the random multi-directional shapes just confused my brain and the results were neither balanced or pretty. So for my version of it I had to impose some order on the “shark tooth” shapes and make them all swirl outwards in the same direction. However as you’ll see in Beate’s examples, Tri-Bee can grow in various directions and result in a variety of shapes, including a holiday-ish pinecone look. It has lots of potential for decorative embellishing as you see here in the example Zentangle tile Beate shares of her Tri-Bee.

Beate writes, “Tri-Bee has lively ‘one left / one right’ waving Tips. It grows from the inside out and diagonally over the tile.

Beate illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Tri-Bee here on her blog and she includes many very pretty example Zentangle and Bijou tiles of her tangle.
