It’s been quite some time since we enjoyed a tangle pattern from Wisconsin tangler Susie Achter but she’s back today with X-ess. A couple of years ago Susie shared her Blips and Undling, another on my list of personal favorites.
X-ess has rather a calligraphic look to it and it’s an easy tangle based on back-to-back C-shaped strokes. It can be drawn in a ribbon-style by drawing them “end to end” in a column and it can also be drawn as a randomly-spaced motif as Susie shows in her example.
I found that to draw X-ess end-to-end as in my example, it helped to repeat Step 1 to get the spacing for the length of the line I wanted, and then to go back and continue with the remaining steps.
