How to draw CRATER

Zentangle pattern: Crater. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.comCrater is a tangle from one of our many Taiwan CZTs, Mei Hua Teng or Damy as she likes to be called.

Damy notes that when Crater is created as in Step 2 with the strokes just on two sides of each grid square she is reminded of a vase. When the strokes are done on all 4 sides of each grid square as in her Step 6 variation below, it reminds her daughter Hsin-ya of the elements on a gas stove.

Damy demonstrates Crater with some shading in the center portion that gives it a little 3D. I wanted to do something a little different so I chose another way to embellish Crater for my example.

Damy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Crater her and features it in a Zentangle® with some variations and the Zentangle-original tangle Paradox.

I like it! Very funky and unusual.

Very cool pattern. Your embellishment is one of my favorites Linda!

I like this. I can see lots of possibilities with this one. Thank you for sharing this.

Linda, yours looks like spools of thread. Not the modern spools made of Styrofoam, but the old wooden spools. Remember those? I have some from long ago (with thread on them still). Probably my grandmother’s.

A design with so many variations is always interesting. I’m really enjoying playing with it. Thanks Noelene
