Antz is a sweet new tangle pattern from Aussie tangler Sara Brandli and it’s her first on the site.
When it comes to naming tangles Rick and Maria write, “We usually choose names that don’t create a preconception of how a tangle should look.” That’s an important piece of advice to keep in mind when it comes to giving tangles creative names.
Although the name Antz stands a good chance of creating a preconception of a physical object, Sara has made the pattern abstract by altering and adding embellishments. She honors her inspiration while not making it a drawing of the actual physical “thing”.
In my example for Antz, I added some shading and little “bobbles” to three of them just for fun. This makes a good random pattern but you could also line the motifs up to create an interesting border tangle.
I live in the south west of western Australia. have been enjoying Zentangles for about 2.5 years now. hooked, hook line and sinker. always have a pen & tile or book with me. so so relaxing and a great conversation piece, always get people asking me what are you doing. I have made some great acquaintance through Zentangles.
thank you so much for your site it was my saviour when I went through a bad health crisis. to Rick & Maria what can one say except would love to see you visit Australia.
Antz came about by watching the Ants we get millions of them in our very hot dry dusty environment. they come in all shapes and sizes.
Sara illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Antz below and features it in a monotangle Zentangle® with a large variation in the center surrounded by orbs.
Check out the tag sarab for more of Sara’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.
