This cool architectural tangle is from Nancy Newlin and Panthe is her first on the site. Nancy is from Arden, NC, and she will be attending the Zentangle® CZT XIII seminar in a week and a half (November 10-13).
“Panthe came from a photograph I saw of the inside of the dome of the Pantheon in Rome.”
Here’s our architecture tidbit for today: “A coffer (or coffering) in architecture, is a sunken panel in the shape of a square, rectangle, or octagon in a ceiling, soffit or vault.”
Just to show that grid patterns don’t have to be square, below is a photo of the Pantheon dome, courtesy of Wikipedia. For a little variety in your Zentangles, Zendalas and ZIAs, consider using this radiating version of a grid the next time you use a grid-based tangle and see where it takes you. And BTW – wonky grid lines also make interesting tangles.
“I have an undergraduate degree in graphic design and even though I retired as a technical writer, I’ve always been drawing (plans for house updates) or lettering (displays and gifts) or engaged in some sort of creative endeavor (sewing draperies, building fences). I was looking for a something different to do when I saw Zentangle Untangled by Kass Hall, bought it, and was enthralled by the endless possibilities in Zentangle. I started tangling immediately and intend to teach Zentangle workshops in the Asheville, NC area.“
Nancy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Panthe below and features it in a monotangle.
