Kuke is a tangle pattern shared by lampwork glass artist and CZT® Katy Abbott. It’s her first on the site and Kuke was the subject of one of CZT Laura Harms’s recent weekly challenges.
Katy writes that her young daughter loves cucumbers and this tangle was inspired by a slice Katy found on the floor. Excited by the pattern she saw, Katy put the cucumber slice on her lightbox to see the detail better so she could easily deconstruct it. She sent along the lightbox photo:
I am a CZT living in the Philadelphia, PA area and teach Zentangle classes to all ages. I am also a Research Scientist and put my PhD to work by studying how to improve the quality of care provided to older adults residing in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and receiving home and community based services.
Kuke is a surprisingly adaptable tangle pattern. As you’ll see from Katy’s steps, her original pattern replicates the overall circular cucumber shape. But the basic abstract idea of the pattern can easily be extrapolated to create even a grid pattern as I’ve done here. I’ll bet you’ll find opportunities to fit Kuke into many different shaped sections in your Zentangles.
Katy illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Kuke here on her blog.
