How to draw WIDGETS

Zentangle pattern: Widgets. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal. Here’s a fun tangle for you to start the week by CZT® Kate Ahrens of Wayzata MN, and Widgets is her first on the site.

In a way Widgets starts out like Bubbles and it’s also very similar to Germie from Maria Browning’s Time to Tangle With Colors.

This is a great pattern for you to let your imagination loose and come up with cool variations. I used several of Kate’s in my example here. Widgets is a simple tangle to fill up a section with a variety of forms or only using the basic form Kate shows in her steps. Shading adds a great dimension to Widgets too.

I’ve been an art teacher for lets say, quite some time. While working with the kids I am always drawing and painting while demonstrating the things that they are doing. Mostly my art was done in the summertime and during breaks. In 2009 I decided that this had to change and joined an online trading site for ATC’s, artist trading cards. The small size allowed me to work on, and complete art during the school year. It was on the site that I first learned about Zentangle®. The rest as they say is history! I was fortunate to be able to become a CZT during Seminar 9. The pattern for ‘Widgets’ came about from a pile of hardware pieces that were laying on my drafting table while making altered keys. I have found that it makes a good filler. I tested it out, while teaching my students to tangle at school, and they where the ones who helped me name it Widgets.

Here are Kate’s illustrated step-by-step instructions for drawing Widgets together with “a couple of ATC’s and a tile that I have used it on.
