How to draw SCROLLED FEATHER

Zentangle pattern: Scrolled Feather. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.Scrolled Feather comes to us from Australian Helen Williams and it’s her first tangle pattern on the site.

Helen lives in the Yarra Valley, Victoria, named for the Yarra River. According to Wikipedia the Yarra River “originates approximately 90 kilometres east of the City of Melbourne and flows towards it and out into Port Phillip Bay. The Yarra Valley is a popular day-trip and tourist area, featuring a range of natural features and agricultural produce … and is host to a thriving wine-growing industry.”

This lovely tangle was another one I had to practice many times before I was satisfied with it. In the end I resorted to “doing it upside down” from Helen’s steps and that seemed to get the auras creating the “feathers” to work best for me.

Helen introduces herself:

“I live in Australia with my family (and many chickens, cows, cats, 2 little piggies and a dog) on a small farm. …  A few months ago I was taking a break from another project, surfing the web, and discovered Zentangle®. I was enthralled and have not spent a day since without a pen in my hand (all other projects have been pushed aside!). I love to include tangles with flower images in unexpected ways and experiment with the different ways I can use pattern designs. My beautiful, natural surroundings provide a lot of inspiration for this.”

Helen illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Scrolled Feather here on her blog.

Update 09/29/2012: Helen has added a 3-minute video demonstrating how to draw Scroll Feather and posted several variations here.
