How to draw PUD

Today’s super easy Pud tangle is from CZT Virginia (Ginny) Lockhart and it’s her second tangle on the site. Previously she shared her Watusee tangle with us.

I am a CZT 15. I had noticed Zentangle® tiles in an art supply store and thought it would partner well with the calligraphy I have been practicing for 40+ years.

I couldn’t find time to take a class with a CZT until I retired in 2013. Little did I know how quickly I’d be hooked! Before the end of my Basic Zentangle class, I knew I wanted to become a CZT!

I enjoy teaching students of all ages – I’m a retired educator who taught elementary through graduate school. True to my original intention, I love to combine tangles with my lettering as often as I can.

Pud was inspired by a pattern I saw on a piece of clothing in a catalog. I am intrigued by arches and spirals, so the pattern caught my eye.

Pud is a simple pattern to tangle and its DNA can be traced back to the early Zentangle-original Tagh, Livia Chua’s Drawave, and other arched/scalloped or fish-scale type tangles {I can’t decide which term to use 😉 }. Pud offers many options for exploring easy variations with fills and embellishments, as well as changing scale (not the fish kind).

Ginny illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Pud, “On the tile below Pud is paired with Lenche, by Anita Westin; the two seem to make a friendly pair!
