How to draw SPOOLIES

For the last 2 weeks I’ve been working on the 2017 Edition of my TanglePatterns.com TANGLE GUIDE and I’ve encountered some dizzying adventures including computer hardware failure. Undaunted, I am aiming for this Friday the 6th for the launch of the newest edition and I would appreciate it if you would all keep your fingers crossed to help me achieve that goal! 🙂

I will let you know when it is ready!

Spoolies can be drawn overlapping like the Zentangle-original Printemps, or side-by-each as we might hear in Newfoundland. Your creative choice.

Spoolies is a semi-continuous-line tangle … parts are and parts aren’t. [I warned you my head is scrambled.] It’s a great one for practicing your aura-ing technique.

Hanny explains she named her tangle Spoolies,

cause it reminds me of coils, (but that name is already taken), in German that is the word ‘Spulen’, so I made Spoolies out of it.”

And there you have it.

It seems you get the best results from Spoolies by making sure the curve in Step 1 is really curved. But as Hanny points out, “don’t worry if your Spoolies don’t look perfect, it doesn’t matter once you add the shading.Spoolies is fun and easy!

Hanny illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Spoolies here on her blog where she features it in a Zentangle® tile with the Zentangle-originals Printemps and some sprigs of Verdigogh and Finery.

As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.
