How to draw ZOYA

Zentangle pattern: ZoyaZoya starts out like the official tangle Flukes (or if using curved lines, Beelight) and then Canadian tangler Celia Norman takes it in a little different direction.

Celia, who recently shared her Fang tangle with us, doesn’t say where her inspiration for this one came from but she dedicates the tangle to her granddaughter.

I chose a simple variation of Zoya for my example here. But in Celia’s steps here on her blog she shows us several different and intriguing ways to vary the pattern. I especially like Celia’s third variation where she alternates the direction each motif faces to get a centered square. That version really takes some focus. (Clumsy description, interesting pattern.)

Celia also uses Zoya in a whimsical Zentangle-inspired drawing depicting the Chinese Year of the Snake she did for one of the Diva’s recent challenges. If you’re like me and need steps you can see – click on the steps image on her blog for a larger version.

Check out the tag celian for more of Celia’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.
