Today we get three tangles for the price of one, bargain Monday! This one is Suzanne McNeill’s Eddy tangle pattern.
In this 13-and-a-half minute video CZT® Suzanne McNeill shows how you can personalize greeting cards, stationery and gifts with Zentangle®-inspired lettering techniques.
As I mention in my review of Zentangle 8 Suzanne asked some guest artists and CZTs to submit a tile with a tangled alphabet letter using one of the tangles from the book. Here’s my “L” tile featuring Eddy. There are many beautiful tiles, more intricate and colorful, to enjoy in Zentangle 8.
Suzanne demonstrates how to draw three tangles from the new Zentangle 8:
- Eddy at 3:14
- Pouf at 4:34, and
- Lace Curtains at 6:45
She also shares some advice on using Sakura pens (9:30). Enjoy!
The illustrated steps for drawing Eddy in Zentangle 8 are completely different from the way Suzanne demonstrates in this video. In the book you begin with a central curvy line then grow the alternating swirls from that. Then you add the “aura” line to the swirls on the outside of the shape instead of the inside as she shows here. Either way, you end up with a fun, easy tangle! Update August 2015: Suzanne has published the steps for drawing Eddy here on her blog.
Check out the tag suzannem for more of Suzanne’s patterns on TanglePatterns.com.

I loved watching your demonstration. Where do you get your alphabet letter stencils?
You can find these at craft stores; Michaels and Hobby Lobby have a wide variety – check out the Scrapbooking section
Thank you Linda. My son is about to be married and I wanted to do something special for them on these lines. Thank you for the inspiration.
Hi Linda. I cannot get any of the recent videos to play. Do I need to do something besides press the play button? thanks
Hi Leslie, that most likely is an issue with your browser – try searching Google with your browser type, version number etc. and see what you can find out. Sometimes various plugins etc. will cause that to happen.
Eddy is a cute border pattern. Can’t wait towards December. I will be able to donate towards the 2013 tangle patern collection and get a copy of the newer Zentangle Books that just came out. I have them on my “Wish” list in my Amazon Account.
Thanks Linda, I will try that.
Just FYI, I view your blog on my phone right now as I am staying in another town for work and don’t have internet access – I can view you tube videos on other sites, but not on this one, so I wouldn’t think it is a browser issue – I have just one browser in my phone… Luckily thus tangle is pretty easy to figure out from looking at it! Love your site – I am going through the alphabet and sketching them all in a small moleskine.:-)
wow awesome!
What is the name of the leafy pattern growing from the inside corner of the “L”? Thx!
That’s the official tangle Pokeleaf – https://tanglepatterns.com/2010/05/how-to-draw-pokeleaf.html
Of course! I guess I didn’t recognize it without its long “stems”! Beautiful.
I like this tangle, very nice as a border. Thanks for sharing!
