How to draw FUNLS

Zentangle pattern: FunlsFunls is a tangle pattern from Canadian CZT® Margaret Bremner and it’s based on the official tangle Cadent.

As I’ve said elsewhere (and frequently) in the past, Cadent is quite a tangleation factory because there are many ways you can vary it with different fills, double and triple strokes, connecting up the orbs in various ways, and so on.

Zentangle pattern: CADENT

The official tangle CADENT

As you can see with the example on the right, the two patterns are quite different in appearance. Cadent is one of my favorite official tangles; connecting up the orbs while making sure the connections are going in the right direction is very absorbing. It is simple and it requires focus.

Zentangle pattern: FunlsWith Funls you don’t even have to complete all the steps and you get a cool effect. Here is the result from the first three steps of my example from above before I completed it.

Margaret illustrates the steps for drawing Funls here with a Zentangle tile including this fun Cadent spin-off tangle. In Margaret’s steps she leaves the orbs “hollow”; in my example above I made them solid and chose not to include Margaret’s optional last squiggles.
