How to draw CANARD

Zentangle pattern: CanardThe Canard tangle comes to us from Abigail Lalonde and this is her first pattern on TanglePatterns.

Canard works great as either a border or a fill pattern and you can vary it with different types of shading (I chose one for my example), and by using solid fills instead of the line work.

Abigail shares a little about herself and how she came up with her tangle: “Abigail is a former cook, turned stay at home mom from Upstate NY, with a passion for all things crafty or artistic. She hopes to someday be able to share her love of Zentangle and art in general with her son.

… A little while ago my husband brought home a John Le Carre book from the library; it was one of those vintage hardcover books, with a very interesting all over pattern. This pattern stuck in my head as I tangled, and I just had to see if I could replicate it. I’ve named it Canard, which is French for duck. as the pattern reminds me of little tessellating duckies.”

Where Abigail see abstract ducks in the white spaces, I see pinwheel flags in between – it all depends on how you look at it, as they say.

Here are Abigail’s step-by-step instructions for drawing Canard, and her lovely Zentangle® incorporating her tangle.

Thanks for sharing, Abigail!
