How to draw LILYPADS

Zentangle pattern: LilypadsThis lovely tangle pattern, Lilypads, is from Saskatoon artist and CZT®, Margaret Bremner. “LILYPADS may have been inspired by various photos I took in China of flowers in ponds.”

This pattern looks stunning all on its own, don’t you think? Very serene. As Margaret indicates, “Under-lapping some of the leaves gives it more dimensionality. This could be shaded where all the lines converge, or on the under-lapping, or at the edge of the tangle.” Drawing behind, or under-lapping as Margaret has coined, is often the key effect in many of the official Zentangle patterns. In my version of Lilypads I chose to shade the centers to add depth.

Margaret illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Lilypads, here.

  • thanks to you Linda for a great site offering inspiration to newbies. Also Margaret for this unique pattern which certainly appeals to the nature-lover side of me. I’ve just uploaded a blog-post where I’ve declared myself a tangler now!
