How to draw FLORANDA

Hi everyone, welcome to June!

Today’s sweet ribbon-style tangle Floranda is from Belgian CZT Ria Matheussen.

There are countless ways to put together leaf shapes and 4 or 5 petals into flowers — they arrive in my inbox at least once a week so I think I’ve seen them all! Floranda has an order to it that especially appeals to me 😉

Ria writes,

Because of the restrictions due to the Corona and the cold/rainy weather in Belgium, I have a lot of time to tangle… and yes, I do it almost every day with great pleasure.

Organic patterns are very popular and especially when they are not too difficult, so here is another one: Floranda.

Purely by coincidence I was inspired by this image.

I have drawn Floranda in a corner of a square and in the middle. It can be used as a border or a ribbon, straight or wavy but I don’t like it as a filler, showed on the picture. I use just one Tipple instead of two little “leaves” between two tangles and I liked to give it a more “floral” look by adding little strokes in the middle of the “flower”.

Many variations are possible: the “flower” between the three little leaves can be colored or filled with little tipples… On the image every element is loose from each other (like f.ex. Molygon) but it is also possible to connect them with a kind of wire (as I did on the curly ribbon)

In the Portuguese language flower is translated by flor and in Belgium we have a lot of beautiful names ending with anda, such as Miranda, Yolanda, Fernanda… that is why I added anda behind Flor (a non existing word).

For my example of Floranda I used one of Ria’s variations below and just out of curiosity (“what if?”) I restated the Micron 01 outlines using a Micron PN — it makes QUITE a bit heavier stroke than the 01.
