Today’s sweet tangle is from Phoenix, Maryland CZT Barbara Duel Johnson and it’s her first on the site.
Barbara introduces herself,
I’m a former teacher, and a current RN and Holistic Practitioner. I’m dedicated to helping people who are ill or who hurt, and volunteer my time to help people, with natural alternatives to pharmaceutical drugs, for discomfort and diseases, and injuries.
I’ve been tangling for 3 years, and recently became a CZT.
‘Deesie’ has no real inspiration. I just started tangling one day, and it developed.
Very often inspiration comes from just relaxing and seeing what develops intuitively. Hmmm … just like Zentangle® – no preplanning!
Deesie is composed simply of curls forming a triangular shape and gets its impact from the weighting or rounding added to the strokes creating its form.
Barbara illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Deesie below. In her illustration Barbara demonstrates a variety of ways to use Deesie in your Zentangle tiles as a ribbon or border, in corners and in clusters.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

Happy Hanukkah!
For all our Jewish tangling friends celebrating their joyous Festival of Lights beginning at sunset tomorrow …

- "A Zentangle has no up or down and is not a picture of something, so you have no worries about whether you can draw a hand, or a duck. You always succeed in creating a Zentangle." Thus patterns that are drawings of a recognizable naturalistic or actual object, figure, or scene, are not tangles. A pattern is not always a tangle — here's what makes a tangle. Beautiful tangle, but didn’t you misspell it, Barbara? 😉
from Dessie
Ha ha ha. Sorry about that. Deesie was a nickname that we gave my dad when we were kids, LOL.
What a fun, festive tangle! I’m using it immediately on my gold-on-black Christmas cards! Thank you, Barbara and Merry Christmas-Happy Hannukkah to you and to all in our beautiful Zentangle world
Thank you, Roberta! It is great to get nice feedback. I am glad that you like it.
Merry Christmas/Happy Hanukkah to you, as well, and to all of us that are afflicted with this addiction, LOL.
Fun tangle. Thanks for sharing
I’ve been using this tangle while exploring watercolouring, and I love how easy it is to create stunning tiles playing with Deesie :). Thank you 🙂
