A warm welcome to another brand new week of tangles, a pleasant creative interlude in these very strange times.
As always we begin the week with a super easy Monday tangle.
Today Minnesota CZT Esther Piszczek shares her Vahlpayper, an easy and versatile channel grid-based tangle. It’s her fifth tangle on the site, be sure to check out the rest! (Here’s how to find them in a flash.)
Esther writes,
I love channel grids. They can be broken down and used as individual band tangles or stacked up and they become a lovely background tangle.
Vahlpayper is easy to draw as either a band or a channel grid tangle and highly customizable.
I hope you enjoy it.
Esther illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Vahlpayper below where her Zentangle example includes a whole variety of fun “highly customizable” ways to explore her tangle.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours. Your thanks helps motivate them to continue to share! And please share a link to your favorite tangles on social media. Thanks!

This will be a fun play. Thanks for sharing.
Hello Esther and Linda –
Thanks for posting this tangle. I think I’ll give this one a try just so I will remember that whimiscal tangle name. I had to think about it for a bit before it came to me. 😉
Geez, for a while there I didn’t think anyone was going to get this 😉
When I realized how the name was pronounced I had a good laugh…hilarious! As a teen my late father helped my grandfather as a paper hanger and I remember stories about taking all their supplies on the streetcar in Toronto (including the paste in a bucket!)I love the simplicity of this pattern as well, thanks Esther and Linda for another great tangle!
Thank you, Bunny, for sharing your story. I thought it looked a bit like wallpaper, but naming it that would be just too pedestrian, so I gave it an accent. I’m glad it’s name, Vahlpayper, gave you a chuckle!
