Last one for the merry, merry month of May …
West Virginia tangler Beth Snoderly has shared many excellent tangles with us and she’s back today with Zara.
In fact at last count Zara is Beth’s 28th tangle on the site!!
Beth writes,
It really is true that you can find tangle ideas anywhere. This one comes from my husband’s business partner’s back porch deck. I saw a design on his light fixture, and took a picture so I could use it for a tangle
The Zara tangle is pretty versatile to decorate. I had fun with my example tile. I am sure there are many other ways to dress it up too.
You can also use a grid of rectangles instead of squares to get it closer to the original proportions. I use it both ways.
Just for fun I turned my example of Zara 90° — as there’s no up or down, no “right side up” in Zentangle®. I drew the strokes in Step 2 a little longer than I should have for the arches in Step 4, so I simply filled in the shape and enlarged it to disguise the “mistake”. Turned out just fine 🙂
Beth illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Zara below and as she notes, she had fun in her example tile featuring whole host of intriguing decorations to explore.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

Lovely versatile tangle, thank you very much for this one!
Love this tangle, simple and very fun. Many thanks for sharing and keep up the good work.
Many thanks Beth! Zara is definitely in my top 10 faves – I love all the variations you show- and I love coming up with even more. It’s one of those Tangles that can really bring a tile or ZIA together or help get me unstuck if you know what I mean ? I look forward to perusing your other patterns. Thanks for contributing. PB
