How to draw ZEEZ

Zentangle pattern: Zeez. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. Great to start the week with a simple ribbon-style tangle that’s fun to do and produces a minimalist, elegant result.

Prairie Kittin’s Zeez tangle is her second on the site and as she says “Danzer is also made up of triangles. I guess I just like triangular shapes!

Zeez has many possibilities for exploring embellishments, for my example I placed Zeez ribbons in columns next to each other to fill the tile and added a little graphite fill inside.

Prairie writes,

I was idly drawing this as a border, when I realized just how versatile this pattern really is.

The middle lines can be straight or curved.

The triangles can be filled in numerous ways, from dots, to lines, to just black, or left with no fill.

It can be straight or can meander over the whole tile. Lots and lots of variations. It’s a fun little tangle to play with!

I was first introduced to Zentangle by a therapist who uses it in her work with PTSD patients. The first tangle I did was Purk, and that was it. I was hooked for life. I love the Zentangle Method. Whenever I start to get stressed or have a flashback, I grab a tile and start tangling. I carry a little box with me that has a small clipboard, some tiles, a pen or two and a pencil. My daughter calls it ‘Mom’s Emergency Art Supplies’.

If you’re looking for a holiday gift that keeps on giving, Prairie’s “little box” with the basic Zentangle supplies in it is a wonderful idea to help start a friend or family member on a life-long path of creative exploration. Just tuck a card inside with this printed on it: TanglePatterns.com. 😉

Prairie illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Zeez below with three simple ways to fill the triangles to vary the tangle. I found Prairie’s first step of starting with dots very helpful in keeping the direction of the tangle “under control”, whether you want the ribbons to go in a straight line or on a curve as she also demonstrates.

How to get your very own Gravatar

Linda's gravatarHere’s a tip from the past on how to get one of those cute little square pictures of yourself that show up with your comment in any blog or forum. Here’s mine!

“Why?” you’re asking. Because it’s FREE, really easy to do, and it’s so much nicer to see a face, or an image representing your personality, instead of a computer-generated icon or a blank spot alongside your comment.
