In these quieter days of Summer I’ve been enjoying taking trips through “the archives” for Zentangle® tangles that have been left behind for one reason or another in the ongoing emergence of new tangles.

Firecracker from CZT Suzanne McNeill is among the ones I came across and thoroughly enjoyed for its utter simplicity.

Published in her prolific booklet series, Firecracker appears in Zentangle 7: Inspiring Circles, Zendalas & Shapes. For those of you interested in expanding your creativity into the realm of Zendalas, this booklet has a whole range of ideas you might like to try. And for $8.99, it won’t break your bank to explore them.

Rarely (if ever) does Suzanne add shading to any of her tangles, but in this case I added a bit “in the valleys” of my example to give it some dimension. Firecracker is based on a simple channel grid and fills a section of your Zentangle® tile very easily.

Suzanne illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Firecracker (link removed) on her blog.

UPDATE: Early in the Summer of 2014 Suzanne McNeill’s blog domain registration expired and all the posts and images were lost. Many of her patterns on TanglePatterns can quite easily be figured out. For those that might be a little more difficult, Fox Chapel Publishing (who hold the copyright) and Suzanne have graciously given me permission to post her copyright-protected images on TanglePatterns for your convenience.
