How to draw REMO

Zentangle pattern: Remo. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. Newport is the scene of the first CZT reunion, at that time called a Zentangle Masters’ Class, in August 2010. zenAgain is the second in this “series” of reunion classes.

For three-and-a-half days this week the entire Zentangle® HQ team will be introducing new approaches, new skills, new products, and [YES!!] a few new Zentangle-original tangles.

The purpose of zenAgain is “to inspire a renewed focus to your practice of the Zentangle Method, explore teaching methods, introduce new concepts and dig deeper into some old ones.” As well as to reunite with old CZT colleagues and meet new ones from across the globe. The rest of the CZT community who couldn’t make it to zenAgain, including me, will be kept in touch and up-to-date by special newsletters during the event.

By Wednesday afternoon, the CZTs fortunate to be able to go to zenAgain will return to their homes, Zentangle-supercharged by their zenAgain reunion. We look forward to learning from their experiences!

And now for today’s lovely ribbon-style tangle named Remo.

Remo is from Australian tangler Anne Marks. Anne has several tangles on the site but it’s been a loooong while since her last one; in the meantime she’s contributed many strings to the community resource. Anne writes that she developed Remo while working on some Zendalas, one of which is shown below.

In order to keep an even line, I found it helpful to first draw all the pointed oval shapes of the same angle in Step 1, leaving space for the shape facing in the opposite direction. Then going back to fill those spaces. This not only helps keep the pattern going on the direction I wanted, but also to keep the pointed ovals approximately the same size and angle to each other for a balanced result.

Anne illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Remo here, where she also demonstrates several possible variations for her tangle.
