Happy Friday! Taiwan CZT Mina Hsiao is back with another of her intriguing tangles, 1/2 orbs. This is her 10th tangle on the site.
1/2 Orbs aka Half Orbs came as a result of her experimenting with her CC tangle and she writes, “some auras crossed. My inspiration comes from this.”
I think 1/2 Orbs benefits from a larger scale than I used for my example as you’ll see below with Mina’s examples, however it still looks delicate and unusual even at this size. I went a little crazy with the graphite so then I went back with my Micron to fill in a few spaces, as shown right.
Mina illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing 1/2 Orbs below and features it in a monotangle. In Step 5 she shows a variation where the auras drawn in Step 3 meet at the base of the curves drawn in Steps 1 and 2.
Here Mina demonstrates how her variations of 1/2 Orbs in Step 5 can be drawn “off the grid” in a pretty, organic Zendala tile.
As you enjoy any of the tangles on the site, please do leave a comment of thanks and encouragement to show the artists you appreciate them for sharing their creativity to inspire yours.

This is an awesome Tangle!! I see myself using this quite often.
Love this one!
I love tangles such as these. At first glance, it appears rather complex, but the step out is actually really easy. I look forward to using it! 🙂
What a wonderful tangle pattern. It weaves together like magic!
I will enjoy using it! Thanks!
I like how you could use this pattern either in a grid, or as a border, or free-form as on your Zendala tile – I’m looking forward to trying it!
SUPERBE +++++++++++
Lovely! Definitely going to try this one.
wow!
I love half orbs, especially being used in a more organic way. Very, very nice. Thank you Mina.
Thank you. Love your tangles,
very pretty – I love it!
I love 1/2 ORBS – it`s easy to do and very lacy and graceful – I`m really having fun with it this week – I even made a straight monotangle with it like Linda`s! I think I prefer the totally interior aura-ing, not so much the arch-y variation, but I will probably try both, now that I have been reminded of the arch-y one.
Love your 1/2 Orbs tangle – it combines simplicity and elegance, and still looks sooo difficult! Different fillings change it completely. Used it in several tiles already. Thanks for sharing this!
It’s very Celtic-ish, and I love all things Celtic.
How fun!!! Never thought to use a botanical Love it! Thank You
