How to draw CYLON

Cylon is another interesting grid-based tangle pattern from West Virginia tangler Beth Snoderly. You can find all the cool tangles and strings Beth’s contributed to the community, simply use her name in the search box at the top right of any page.

Beth writes she was watching TV “while playing with this tangle and a commercial gave me an idea.  I went with it and came up with Cylon.”

I always enjoy tangles with rice shapes in them as there’s usually a defined beginning and ending point for each parenthesis stroke, no guesstimating the size needed. Structure! Add some auras and a stroke in the middle of the rice shape, you have Cylon. It’s also a tangle that needs no shading for its impact when you add solid fills to it.

Beth illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Cylon below and she shows it in a monotangle with a couple of suggested variations. There’s plenty of room to play with this one.
