How to draw ARCODOS

Today is Australia Day for all our tangling friends down under.

“Australia Day is the official national day of Australia. When I was doing a little research on the traditions of celebrating this fine summer holiday I learned about some yummy-sounding Australian foods I’d never heard of before like snags and dampers and Lamingtons and friands. And though I’ve heard of Pavlovas, the Aussies have a whole encyclopedia of ways with Pavlovas.

Happy Australia Day celebrations to all our Aussie tangling friends! Enjoy your picnics and barbies or a day at the beach with family and friends, and an evening of fireworks to top it all off. And pass the Lamingtons, pretty please.

What better way to celebrate this day than with a tangle pattern from an Australian CZT.

Arcodos is from CZT Lianne Woods, who recently shared her YNY tangle with us. Arcodos, Lianne writes, “is called ‘arcodos’.  ‘arco’ meaning ‘arc’ in spanish and ‘dos’ for the number 2.”

Arcodos is a Cadent-related tangle that starts with an offset grid of small orbs. These are connected with curved strokes using the “take off and land” technique and the resulting loops filled in. I added some simple auras to my example here to jazz it up a little. Cadent, as you may be aware, is one of the core Zentangle®-original tangles and not only is it a good “mac and cheese” tangle but MANY other tangles have been derived from Cadent and its technique.
