The lovely Zen Bud tangle pattern was created by Danni O’Brien, a graphic designer from Ann Arbor, Michigan, and this is her own drawing. “I started tangling in August, and as anyone who’s been around me knows, I’m crazy about the zentangle® process,” she writes on her blog.
Danni is joining the ranks of the CZTs later this month when she attends the certification seminar.
“Two of my sisters and niece got together and are sending me to the February CZT class to get certified. It’s one of the best and thoughtful gifts I’ve ever received and I’m so excited and thankful. I can hardly wait. My friend Jeanne, who exposed me to the process, is also going. It’s going to be a wonderful adventure!“
Danni created this pattern in “honor of the upcoming Valentine’s holiday … I love drawing flowers and including them in my tangles. One of my favorites are rose buds.”
You will find Danni’s step-by-step illustration for drawing her Zen Bud tangle pattern here, where she also gives excellent detailed tips for each step.
This is Danni’s first pattern on TanglePatterns, so check the tag dannio for more of her patterns in the future. Thanks Danni, for choosing TanglePatterns to debut your pattern!

Very cool Danni. I look forward to meeting you in a few weeks in person. I’ll be getting certified too. But I’m not an artist by trade like yourself. I just LOVE your Zen bud.
Wonderful pattern Danni and great instructions. I look forward to meeting you at CZT as well.
Thanks Terri and Kathy
Looking forward to meeting both of you in a couple of weeks! Let’s all do the sun dance so the weather is NOT blizzardy.
Danni, you make such cool designs! I love using them in my zendalas! I used ZenBud in my fifth Zendala Dare — check it out. 🙂
I’m a bit late with my comment but I just wanna say this is such a lovely tangle to put on flowery tiles. I use it many times.
