California CZT Wayne Harlow is back this week with another elegant tangle he’s named Zeta, “which is the 6th letter of the Greek alphabet and the uppercase version looks like the ‘Z’ in our alphabet and that is the fundamental stroke in the making of this tangle.”
Wayne writes,
“This tangle is one that can be used to fill space but I feel like it is much better as a border type design. It provides a lot of options for coloration and looks much different depending on which areas are filled in. I discovered in making the step-outs for this submission that there are a lot of ways this can be drawn and/or embellished.“
I found that for me the main thing I needed to pay attention to with Zeta is in Step 2. You need to end the spiral stroke in just the right orientation for the 3D “scrolls” that develop in Step 5 to work out. Otherwise, like all real tangles, Zeta is easy to draw “one stroke at a time.”™
Wayne illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Zeta below and includes it in a lovely finished Zentangle® along with a beautifully rendered and shaded version of the official tangle Florz.

Beautiful tangle, very lyrical…love the many variables. Also many opportunities to practice shading. Thank you Wayne.
Quite lovely. Once you get the rhythm it takes on a journey all by itself. Looking forward to shading and using it in a tangle composition. Thanks for the inspiration.
