How to draw TELIS

Zentangle pattern: Telis. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal.I was feeling a bit overdue for a new grid-based tangle and Telis popped to mind. This lovely tangle pattern comes to us from British tangler Chrissie Frampton who has also shared her Cayla tangle with us.

Chrissie writes about her inspiration for Telis

We recently did a motorhome tour of Italy, Sardinia and Corsica and stayed on 20 different campsites. We went to so many places that the Tour De France had been through and have made a mental note to watch it next year as I know you are great fans. WOW the scenery was stunning and how did they get up some of those hills?

We stayed at a campsite called Camping Telis in Arbatax, Sardinia, and I saw some wrought iron gates which prompted me to deconstruct the pattern.

I have tried to make the Telis pattern with many variations in the sample tile and the pattern on the bottom right which has a double length sprout, ended up looking like black swans!!

Next summer the 2014 Edition of the Tour de France starts in the northern part of England, so Chrissie could even get to see some professional cycling in person — it’s an exciting spectacle worth seeing. The Grand Départ on July 5th is in Yorkshire, from Leeds to Harrogate (191 km/118.7 miles), Stage 2 is from York to Sheffield (198 km/132 miles), and Stage 3 is from Cambridge to London (159 km/99 miles) before the Peloton heads to Belgium, France and Spain. Should be some wonderful viewing and I’m already looking forward to it. (BTW – The tour organizers recently announced that the 2015 Tour’s Grand Départ will be in Utrecht in The Netherlands.) Thanks for revving up the anticipation Chrissie!

Chrissie illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Telis below and gives us lots of ideas for variations.
