How to draw AQUAFLEUR

First demonstrated at the CZT XII training in October 2013, the instructions for the lovely new Zentangle®-original tangle Aquafleur have just been publicly released by co-founders Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas.

This tangle, Maria writes, was created on a 3-day mini-vacation she and Rick enjoyed in Bermuda last summer. Maria read and drew, and created this tangle pattern. “I wanted to have movement, like the waves. Drama, like the sunsets. Shapes like the flora. And passion . . .” The beautiful result is Aquafleur.

When you see Maria’s illustrated instructions here, it appears Aquafleur takes more than the usual number of steps for a tangle but it is not at all complicated. Just thoroughly illustrated. And, no surprise, it is so much fun to play with! Rick and Maria share some tips for exploring Aquafleur even further.

“This is a dynamic tangle to aura. Play with integrating other tangles between the ‘petals’ … Try different shapes and sizes for the foundation shape. Most of all . . . have fun.“
