How to draw CHEERS

Sue Clark is a new CZT® graduate and Cheers is her first tangle pattern posted here along with her own illustration.

What I really love about Cheers is that despite its apparent complexity it sticks to the Zentangle® philosophy of just 2 or 3 simple lines repeated continuously. More complex patterns require thinking about how to build them and not readily allowing one to get into the “unthinking” rhythm of a Zentangle experience. Simple tangles are the Zen of Zentangle.

Sue created this pattern in the CZT® certification program:

“I am naming this tangle Cheers, because I was inspired by the architecture on the ceiling of the dining room and love to have a good meal and glass of wine with friends, so Cheers! 

Also, after it was shaded the rounded curves looked to me like cheerleaders megaphones. … I am really excited to be a new CZT and can’t wait to start teaching classes in Jan.“

Sue illustrates the step-by-step instructions for drawing Cheers here. Shading adds depth and brings out a 3D Escher-like quality in this tangle pattern. Are the curved sections (“megaphones”) concave, or convex?
