How to draw EEZ

Zentangle pattern: Eez. Image © Linda Farmer and TanglePatterns.com. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. You may use this image for your personal non-commercial reference only. The unauthorized pinning, reproduction or distribution of this copyrighted work is illegal. The lovely border tangle Eez comes to us from Flintville, TN CZT® Judy Burkett and it’s her first on the site.

My tangle Eez came about through a challenge by CZT Sandy Hunter to design a tangle using only one letter or number. I chose the lower case e. Funny thing is it looks at first glance like I chose an s. I hope you have fun with Eez!

Judy introduces herself:

I’m a born and raised Texas girl now living in Southern middle Tennessee since 1985. My earliest memories as a child were of me creating, drawing and coloring. While other kids were climbing trees or jungle gyms, I would be sitting under happily drawing and coloring. So I guess, I have been an artist all my life.

I discovered gourd art about 5 yrs. ago and it was love at first sight! The majority of my art is with gourds now, which has won many awards at shows across the country.

One day my husband, who is also a gourd artist, and I stopped by a craft store and saw a class advertisement for a Zentangle class being offered by Paula Dickerhoff. She had examples of her beautiful art on display. My husband, Jim and I both at the same time said “that would look cool on a gourd!” I signed up and took her class and in art discovered a second love! I became a CZT because I was asked again and again to teach Zentangle to other gourd artist at shows. Jim and I both agreed I would not teach until I was certified, so it was off to Providence, RI for me!

Here we are assuming Step 1 is a String line, because as we know tangles do not start with pencil guidelines. The secret to drawing Eez with ease 😉 is in Step 2 where you turn your tile to draw each lower case e. In my example I also added an aura to the outside edge.

Here are Judy’s step-by-step instructions for drawing Eez and a monotangle Zentangle featuring her tangle with some more variations.
