Leslie Crumpler is a Certified Zentangle Teacher with Sakura of America and Fungees is a lovely tangle pattern Leslie observed and deconstructed as part of her homework at her CZT® training.
Leslie introduces herself:
I work at Sakura of America, the company that manufactures Pigma Micron® pens, where I help market and present Sakura’s products throughout the United States and Canada.
I became a Certified Zentangle Teacher (CZT) in 2010 after seeing the inspiring and beautiful art created by Zentangle enthusiasts throughout the world. As a CZT, I focus my efforts in explaining how the Zentangle method can be used by art educators, professionals artists and designers, and anyone who has the desire to create something beautiful.
During my free-time, I am an avid crafter, love to read, and like to dance to the video game Dance Central.
This is Leslie’s first tangle on the site and it’s a very good time of year for this one as Fungees can be adapted to look rather festive. I can picture it on holiday cards or gift tags.
In this video Leslie shows a photo of the inspiration for her tangle and demonstrates how to draw it. She gives you tips for drawing Fungees and at the end of the video shows a few Zentangles with Fungees variations. As a special bonus below, she also provides her step-by-step instructions for drawing her tangle.
Leslie is using Sakura’s 11-Piece Zentangle Set in the video.

I LOVED this video! It helps so much to see it done “in person” like that. I am so thrilled with this I cannot begin to tell you. Thank you for the time involved with this!
This looks like a lot of fun, looking forward to trying it out.
It was cool watching “fungees go from being just lines to 3d with adding colour and shading! To cool
Cheers
Megan
That was a great demo. Takes some of the “fear of drawing” out of the art. Thanks, I really enjoy this, even as a beginner.
Yay!! Fungees is finally on Tangle Patterns!! It is one of my favorites, and I was lucky to see Leslie present it at our CZT 4 training. Glad it has been shared with the rest of the world!
Great new tangle — can’t wait to try it!
Fantastic pattern! It has contrast, movement, repetition, elegance and potential for all kinds of variation. Brilliant!
